Popular!

When I was 15, I went to EFY at BYU.  A few days into EFY, we all relaxed and were entertained at a talent show - everyone that wanted to be in the talent show had to try out.... so only the best got to perform in front of the 1500ish participants.

One girl got up and started singing... "Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I, (and let's face it - who isn't less fortunate than I?), my tender heart tends to start to bleed, and when someone needs a makeover I simply have to take over...."

We all started looking at each other... I remember feeling a little uncomfortable as I listened to the lyrics from a song I'd never heard... the song continued: "Popular!  You're gonna be popular!  I'll teach you the proper ploys when you talk to boys, little ways to flirt and flounce!  I'll show you what shoes to wear, how to fix your hair, everything that really counts to be popular, I'll help you be popular!"  None of us really knew what the song was or why she was singing it.

Two years later I realized that the talent show girl was just way ahead of the rest of us!  We were wondering "who is this girl and why does she think she's so much better than everyone?" while she was singing a song from the popular broadway musical "Wicked"!

We were lucky enough to go to Wicked at Capital Theatre last week - My mom bought tickets a long long time ago and invited us to join her and my dad on the 5th row!  I giggled during "Popular" as I now know the story line behind the song.

This past weekend we were able to do so much - we celebrated my mom's birthday, went on a walk to Memory Grove, went to the 24th of July concert at Temple Square, visited the Farmer's Market, ate at Dodo's (which was really yummy!), went to Music and the Spoken Word, and spent some good quality time together as a family.

Thanks again for spoiling us all weekend and taking us to Wicked Mom and Dad!
